ON THE COURSE: During the fall of 2006, we installed much needed drainage in the first fairway, in front of the second green and in the fourth fairway. The plan has not been totally finalized but there is also a possibility that we may be making a small pond to accept some of the run off and some of the overflow that the drainage and brook can not handle. We have a local contractor taking a look at the overall area to see what will be the best solution. Mother Nature is always unpredictable and we are sure that whatever we do to correct the current problems she will, at some point, throw a monkey wrench into the mix and give us another headache to take care of. But, one thing at a time, next year with a little luck most of our water problems should be taken care of which will make the course more playable and in better condition. Here are some pictures of the work in progress on the second and fourth holes
Most of the trees that we planted last fall came through last winter and this summer well. We will be replacing a few of the ones that did not survive and maybe even add a couple of others. In the fall of 2005, we had extensive damage from grubs and crows and we took precautions this year to get rid of that problem. We are working on those damaged areas this fall and by late spring of 2007 we hope to have all areas back to top quality condition. We also eliminated four sand traps, the two in the second fairway, the one on the back left of number seven green and the one behind the ninth green. These four traps were very poor quality and very high maintenance. The five remaining traps are in good shape and are all in great locations on the course. We are working on getting good quality, consistent sand for all five and hope to have that taken care of by late spring as well.
MEMBERSHIP HAS ITS PRIVILEGES: We offer many opportunities for you to play golf throughout the season - playing once a week should be very easy to do. If you are a member you can play a few holes a day or a lot of holes a day, that is your privilege. We only have a few days a year when the course is closed for the entire day; please take a look at our tournament/outing schedule and plan your golfing season. See our membership pages for all the details. SOMETHING NEW FOR 2007 AND 2008: There are many people that may not play a lot of golf and a full time membership just is not cost effective. In 2007 we offered a 13 round card for just $150 ($182 value). So for those of you that can't seem to get out and play the 26 times it takes to pay for a full time membership this may be a great alternative. This card will be punched one time for every nine holes that you play. It can be used for league play, weekday or weekend play or even for tournament play (for 18 hole tournaments it will be punched two times). This card will be available again in 2008. WINTER FUN AT GREEN MANSIONS: We will continue to have live bands on Saturday night from 9-1 throughout the winter; we will have a Thursday night pool league from January thru March and a Saturday night dart league from January thru March. Both the Pool league (a team 8-ball competition) and our Dart league (sign up as an individual and we make the teams) are looking for people to play. Our facilities are available to anyone for parties of all types. We are very reasonably priced and have a lot to offer. We can do buffets, sit down dinners, cocktail parties and anything in between. Give us a call. We look forward to seeing you and your friends this winter and next year on the golf course. Thank you for your past and future support.
