What's happening at Green Mansions Golf Club? In the fall of 2001, Ron and Martha opened the kitchen that they had been working on throughout the summer. A large kitchen with a stove, deep fryer, sandwich unit, freezer, refrigerator and a lot of shelving was opened for business in December. The food menu that used to include just sandwiches now includes Hamburgers, Cheeseburgers, French Fries, Onion Rings, Shrimp Baskets, Fish Patties, Chicken Tenders, Chicken Wings, Chicken Wraps, Grilled Chicken Sandwiches, Nachos and Nacho Supremes, Jalapeno Poppers and daily specials. Our kitchen is open to the public, not just to our golfers. Come in and enjoy a great meal, great atmosphere and great prices. New men's and ladies' restrooms were also built, complete with heat and hot water. A heating system was installed allowing us to stay open during the winter to accommodate snowmobile business as well as our regular, off the street business. In April of 2002 we began work on a sprinkler system. We have already added the sprinklers to our greens and are in the process of doing the same to our fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth fairways. (See updated information for 2003 here.) This system will allow us to water more often and more consistently giving us the opportunity to seed and fertilize as needed. This should, over time, give us a much better quality of grass, making our course more enjoyable for everyone. If you haven't played our course recently try us out this year and see what we have done. We are looking forward to seeing you all this summer. What changes have been made in the past five years? Ron and Martha have owned Green Mansions Golf Club since December of 1996. Since that time they have made a lot of changes. In 1997 they remodeled the clubhouse, removing posts and interior walls, making it more roomy and giving them more floor space to display their pro shop items. They removed two large pine trees and about six feet of the hill that was directly in front of the clubhouse, made a new first tee box, bordered by large boulders and enlarged the driving range tee box by about ten times. In 1998 the eighth tee box was completely renovated, both the lower and the upper tee boxes are now over 2000 square feet. The lower tee box has a beautiful stone wall separating it from the upper tee box. A newly paved cart path leads you from the seventh green to the new number eight tee boxes. At the same time our number six and nine tee boxes were enlarged by two times giving us more flexibility on tee positions. In 1999 many trees were removed from behind the second, third, fourth, sixth and seventh greens allowing for better airflow and more sunlight. We also made a new forward tee box on number one, enlarged the forward tee box on number two and rebuilt the forward tee box on number four. In 2000 we removed a pine tree on the seventh fairway and graded a large hill on the right side of number seven, flattening it out to give us a wider fairway and more playable rough area. The entire area was sodded and ready to go by mid-season. We also removed a wooded retaining wall by the fourth green and installed a walk-across culvert leading directly to the green. The two large pine trees next to the clubhouse were removed, allowing more sunlight and also giving us a nice area to start our Memorial Garden. This garden is being built in memory of all the men and lady members of our leagues that have passed away. We will continue to add to it each year making it more beautiful as time goes on. We have many ideas of things that still need to be done to make our course more beautiful and more enjoyable. We won't list them because we want you to come see them as they happen over the next several years. We look forward to seeing you at the course.
