What's Happening?

In 2005 we had one of the warmest and driest golf seasons that we have had in years. Many of you played in our leagues, fun nights and tournaments. We want to thank you and we hope that you enjoyed the experience.

LOOK INTO JOINING ONE OF OUR LEAGUES:

Our couples league on Monday nights was a huge success once again. We had 16 couples and we are hoping to add four more for 2006 so if you are interested let us know. Our ladies league added some new faces this year and everyone had a great time. We are looking to add eight or ten ladies to the league so if you know anyone that wants to play have them contact us soon. As always our mens league had a full field and we are sure that 2006 will be no different. We already have several new members of the course who are interested in joining the mens league in 2006 so we are confident that keeping with our 50 players will be no problem.

Our leagues provide a guaranteed night that you can play golf with your friends or that you will meet and make new friends. It is inexpensive to be in any of our leagues and you do not have to be a good golfer. Many people have said that they are not good enough to play in a league. Well, there are many players that thought the same thing and have found out that they aren't that bad after all. Our leagues are set up so that you play someone close to your ability each week. By playing every week you will get better and regardless it is always a lot of fun to get together after your round, have a cocktail and a bite to eat. Give us a chance to explain what our leagues are all about and we are sure that if you join you won't regret it.

NEW THIS YEAR - WEDNESDAY MORNING COFFEE LEAGUE:

Several of you join and rely on a small group of friends to play with you. Sometimes those friends move away or just don't have the time to play when you want to play. We are going to start a Wednesday morning "Coffee League (Mixer)". Show up by yourself, with a spouse or with a friend. This will be open to anyone 55 and older. It isn't really a league; it is more of a social event to get you out of the house and meeting and playing with new people. This will be open to members and non-members. Every Wednesday morning at 8:45 am, please show up have a coffee and donut, play golf, socialize and go home. No commitment needs to be made that you must be here every week, just make the commitment that will come as often as you possibly can. If you are not a member you will have to pay $8 greens fee for walking or $14 if you wish to ride. The exact set up for the league will be determined later; let us know if you are interested.

TOURNMENTS TO GET INVOLVED IN:

Many of our tournaments fill up each and every year. There are a couple that we are looking to promote to get more interest; one of those is the "Cancer Awareness Tournament" which will be held on Saturday July 15th. This is not only a great cause but there are dozens of prizes, including cash and great gift certificates that are given out each and every year. This tournament has raised about $3000 per year, but with the help of everyone we think that we can get that up to $4000 this year. We have had about 72 players each year and we are looking to get that number up to 100 or 110. We have a double shotgun start at 8 am and 2 pm and we are now allowing men to play in either time slot (your team must still be either two women or two men, no mixed teams). Get involved with this tournament as we are sure that someone you know has been affected by cancer, either to themselves or to a family member or friend.

ENTERTAINMENT, BANQUETS, PARTIES, DART LEAGUE, POOL LEAGUE:

  • We have a Friday night pool league in January thru March; this is a two person eight ball league. For more details or to sign up call the clubhouse. We are taking the first eight teams to sign up.
  • We have a Saturday night dart league (this will be our fifth year) in January thru March; this is a team event. We make up the teams to keep things fair. For more details or to sign up call the clubhouse.
  • We offer our facilities to everyone for any function; give us a call to see what we can do for you.
  • We have a live band every Saturday night at 9 pm. We have a great variety with everything from a single to a five piece band playing for us. All our bands play classic rock with some of them playing the blues, country and a little rock and roll. We have had a great crowd throughout the summer and expect it continue throughout the winter. Come join us for an hour or two to see what is going on.

MEMBERSHIP HAS ITS PRIVILEGES:

We offer many opportunities for you to play golf throughout the season - playing once a week should be very easy to do. If you are a member you can play a few holes a day or a lot of holes a day, that is your privilege. We only have a few days a year when the course is closed for the entire day; please take a look at our tournament/outing schedule and plan your golfing season. We look forward to seeing you this winter and again in the spring. Thank you for your support!

WHAT'S NEW ??

In the fall of 2005, we planted 65 new trees on the course. The trees are maple, oak, dogwood, weeping cherry, pear and a few smaller bushes. These new plantings were done along the first fairway, between the second and fifth fairways, along the left side of the third fairway, the left side of the fourth fairway and a few next to a couple of the tee boxes. These new plantings will make for more definition of the fairways, add more color and maybe make a couple shots a little more difficult. It will take 5-10 years for them to make a real impact but it will be beautiful when they all grow up.

View from 3rd tee We are planning to complete the extension to the fifth tee box in the spring and we are also hoping to complete the cart path to the upper third tee box. That cart path will be changed slightly to make it less steep and diverted slightly so that it does not interfere with the fifth tee box as much.

We are also hoping to fix a couple drainage problems on the first and ninth fairways. Weather permitting it will all be taken care of by the end of May and ready for play by mid-June.

Come by in the spring to check it all out. See you then.

We have many more ideas of things to do to make our course more beautiful and more enjoyable. We won't list them because we want you to come see them as they continue to happen. We look forward to seeing you at the course.
